I would go into this a little further, but to generally answer the question Never underestimate a woman who understands football and love Green Bay Packers Favre Starr Rodgers signatures shirt, their paw pads are pink only if their paws are white, and the skin underneath is pink. My dog goes to the bathroom (shower area) after every walk. Some days he doesn’t need a paw wash. For those days I have a microfiber towel to wipe his feet. The towel should be big in size for the convenience. I wipe his feet in shower area everytime. So basically he goes straight towards the bathroom after everytime he comes from outside. I trained him by giving small treats and praise while wiping paws and washing his paws/belly in the shower. After 2–3 days of consistent training I started going in the bathroom area on his own (without command) . I think he understands cleaning routine after coming home.
I have found most dogs’ paws usually smell of whatever they have walked in unless they washed them. Now if your dog spends a lot of time inside with you and hasn’t walked in mud or other not so nice items, and he is nice and clean, your dog’s feet can smell like a salted corn product, which corn chips and popcorn are. Corn-based foods do not cause this, so no need to change a diet that works for your dog. Dog feet harbor bacteria, Proteus or Pseudomonas, and yeast that emits a scent reminiscent of salted corn products. It is a natural occurrence and nothing to worry about. If you see inflammation, bleeding, or other unusual appearance, then of course take your dog to the vet. Excessive licking of the feet can indicate irritation that itches. Check your dog’s feet regularly for thorns, cuts, or parasites. Where I live sand spurs are a problem. They resemble miniature cockleburrs and lodge between toes with very sharp spines.
