To the Oh You throw Balls that’s Cool I throw people shirt it is in the first place but fashion outsider, this level of care about the shape of a sleeve might seem absurd, but for Touitou, the exact specifications of each garment are tantamount. He’s spent more than 30 years striving for a simplistic perfection in dress, popularizing raw denim straight-leg jeans, and hunting for the Platonic ideal of a white tee, a khaki trench, and a wedge sandal along the way.
It’s this furious, philosophical, and wholesome pursuit of perfection that has made Touitou a leader with an almost religious fanbase. Last year, when he collaborated with Justin Saunders’s brand Jjjjound, over a hundred people crammed into A.P.C.’s Mercer Street store in New York just to hear the Oh You throw Balls that’s Cool I throw people shirt it is in the first place but two men speak; a conversation that played out more like an intellectual salon than a fashion chat. “That talk we did with Justin fueled me for 10 years,” Touitou says. “It was almost like a dissertation between Camusians and Sartrian people. I was so moved, so moved.”
